There are a variety of free and low-cost preschool, after-school, and child care services available in the Macomb County area for income-eligible residents.

Macomb County Community Services Agency: Head Start
Head Start is a free preschool program for low-income families.  Families must meet the federal income guidelines in order to “income qualify” for either Head Start or Early Head Start.

Head Start is a school readiness program for 3 and 4 year old children. Head Start staff address each child’s needs individually in a play based and supportive environment, facilitating a smooth transition in to kindergarten.

Early Head Start provides year-round services, in either the home or at one of four local classrooms, for pregnant women and families of infants and toddlers 0-3 years old.

The 4C (Community Coordinated Child Care)/Better Kid Care is a free, non-profit childcare resource and referral service serving Macomb and St. Clair counties.  The program is administered through the Macomb County Board of Commissioners and Macomb MSU Extension Service.
