Summer Reading 2011 @
Chesterfield Township Library:
You Are Here!
Where Do You Want to Go?
Summer is a great time for traveling! And on the road or stuck at home, books, audio books, and manga are great companions.
Books can take you anywhere! This summer, we'll begin
with a world-hopping party with games, snacks, and fun.
The rest of the summer we'll have programs involving
martial arts, steampunk, cultural dances, and more!
(Hint: Look closely at this artwork on this page. You might
consider picking up DramaCon or Night School for more
of this artist's excellent work!)

Don't forget to register for the Reading Program beginning June 14!
Turn in postcards of your time reading to be entered for weekly prize drawings.
|
|
Your postcards also help me
travel the world!
For every postcard reading log turned in, I (or the tiny paper me riding the train)
will take one step around the world.
I need your help - I want to get back home before the end of summer!
So keep turning in those reading logs - don't let me get stuck in Russia
for the winter! Brrrr!
Week 4: Hola, Buenos Aires! Time to soak in the sun!

We’ll also do registration for the reading program, where spending time reading will net you chances at some pretty neat prizes.

Asia: Martial Arts from Japan
Tuesday, June 21, 6 - 7:30 pm
Prepare to be spellbound by this demonstration of Tamiya Ryu Iaijutsu, a 400-year-old Japanese Sword Art, or Koryu. Tamiya Ryu Iaijutsu was originally founded by Tamiya Heibei Narimasa, a pupil of Hayashizaki Jinsuke Shigenobu, the inventor of Iaijutsu. Practitioners today focus on forging a strong spirit and maintaining the purity of the original art by learning how to draw, cut, and properly resheath the blade.

North America: Geocaching from Seattle (Originally!)
Tuesday, June 28, 6-7:30 pm
Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunt, a combination of getting fresh air and exercising your mind. There are over a million geocaches – everything from containers the size of your pinky all the way up to old ammo containers – hidden all over the world. Geocachers use coordinates posted by other geocachers, a GPS device and their own brains to find these geocaches, which sometimes contain little toys or calling cards and/or simply a slip of paper to sign that you’ve located the cache. Sound like fun? It is!
Registration is highly suggested so there will be enough supplies. |
