The Chesterfield Township Library has materials and services in place to accommodate library users. For People who are Blind or have Low Vision

  • Signage in Braille.
  • Large Print Books in the Adult Services collections.
  • Large Print computer keyboards with high contrast, oversized print letters.
  • 3D Laptop Computer Screen Magnifiers.
  • 3x Large Ultra Bright LED Page Magnifiers.
  • Handheld Magnifiers for use in the library are available at the Information Desk.
  • Audio Book collections for children, teens, and adults are available on compact discs (CDs) and in electronic formats. Downloadable eBook and eAudio collections are available for eReaders, laptops, tablets, computers, and smartphones. Accessibility options are available on Libby by OverDrive and CloudLibrary.
  • The library offers audio-described movies and television programs on DVD and Blu-ray.
  • Large print copies of program handouts and other library flyers and resources are available upon request.
  • An electronic copy of library presentations via a USB will be made available if needed. Please let us know at least 7 business days in advance of the program should you require these services.
  • Patrons may be referred to free services for Macomb County residents through the Macomb Library for the Blind and Print Disabled.
  • Patrons may be referred to free services at the Library of Michgian's Braille and Talking Book Library. 
  • Patrons may be referred to free services at the Michigan Bureau of Services for Blind Persons (BSBP).

For People who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

  • DVD and Blu-ray films with subtitles and closed captioning.
  • Learn American Sign Language All-in-One Course for Beginners kit is available for checkout in the Library of Things.
  • Hamilton Buhl Assistive Listening System is available at the Information Desk for use during library programs in the meeting room. Please contact the library at least 5 business days in advance of the program to reserve it for your use.
  • Sign language interpreters for library programs will be provided upon request and with ample time to schedule. Please contact the library at least 14 business days in advance of the program to schedule this service. If you cannot attend the program, please contact the library promptly to cancel your request.

For People with Limited Mobility

  • Accessible parking spaces.
  • Electronically assisted door openers.
  • Wheelchair-accessible restrooms.
  • Sit down computer stations and computer stations that accommodate wheelchairs.
  • Wheeled walker, Medline Rollator Walker with Seat, is available for use in the library.
  • Rolling shopping baskets are available for use in the library.

For People with Neurodivergent Needs

  • Sound reduction headphones for youth are available for use in the library.

Additional Assistive Devices and Collections

  • The Chesterfield Township Library provides a Library by Mail program for patrons of all ages. This program serves residents who may be immunocompromised, have vulnerable household members, or are restricted to their homes. The library will send materials to you in the mail, and when you are ready, return the items to the library in the same postage-paid mailing bag. Reserve materials by calling the Information Desk at (586) 598-4900 or by completing a Reading Recommendation form.
  • The library's youth collections consist of books, toys, literacy kits, and audiovisual items designed for those with disabilities and/or different learning needs and their caregivers.
  • The library's adult collections consist of books, DVDs, and kits in the Library of Things designed for those with disabilities and/or different learning needs along with their caregivers.
  • The library's collection provides physical and digital materials for people of varied education and skill levels.
  • The library provides access to electronic databases designed to support learners who are developing proficiency and need adapted reading materials.
